Classics not only for children

In our November Sunday afternoon program, we present Buster Keaton's silent movie classic THE CAMERAMAN (Edward Sedgwick, Buster Keaton, USA 1928, 3. & 10.11.). In order to be able to woo the object of his desire Sally, the street photographer Luke Shannon (Buster Keaton) signs on as cameraman on MGM Studios' weekly newsreel, with disastrous results. Spectacular chases, a Chinese gang war and constant arguments with the prototypically corpulent policeman are just some of the adversities the amateur cameraman has to overcome. After a series of mishaps, accidents and near catastrophes, he finally gets his chance when he rescues Sally from drowning and Luke, the helpful monkey of an organ grinder, films the whole incident on celluloid.
