Harun Farocki

Born in 1944 in Nový Jicin (Neutitschein), in the (then) German-annexed Czechoslovakia. In 1966, he began two years of study at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (West). By the end of his time there in 1968, his daughters Annabel Lee und Larissa Lu were born. Beginning in 1974 he spent over ten years authoring and editing the journal Filmkritik in Munich. In 1998/99 he wrote Speaking about Godard / Von Godard sprechen, New York / Berlin (with Kaja Silverman). From 1993 to 1999 he was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Farocki moved to Antje Ehmann in 2001.
Since 1966, Farocki has been involved with over 100 productions for television or the cinema: children’s television, documentary films, film essays, story films. Since 1996, he has been in numerous group and solo exhibitions in museums and galleries. In 2007, he exhibited at documenta 12 with Deep Play. He started as a guest professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 2004, where he has since been upgraded to full professorship.
