Sylvie Boisseau and Frank Westermeyer collaborate in producing videoworks, installations and interventions in public space since 1996.
In 2009 they received a grant from the Art Foundation Bonn and scholarships at artist residencies Worpswede and Akademie Schloß Solitude. They had solo exhibitions at Vtape in Toronto, at 1a space in Hong Kong, Centre pour l’image Contemporain in Geneva Hochschule für Kunst und Design in Genf and ACC Galerie Weimar. Their works have been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions, such as „Egonomie“ in Agent Double, Genf (2009); „Video: Düsseldorf/Riga” in Kunstraum, Düsseldorf and in ANDREJSALA/LCCA Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art, Riga, „Sterne aus dem Videopalast”, at General Public, Berlin (2007) and Galerie NoD, Prague (2007); „Je est il, Je sont ils?” in Centre d’art contemporain de l’Abbaye Saint André, Meymac (2007); „Eroi! Come noi …?” (Helden! Wie wir …?) in Palazzo delle Arti, Naples, Art_Clips ch.at.de and ZKM, Karlsruhe (alle 2007), 7. Werkleitz Biennale, Halle (2006); „Eastern Alliance” in Museum for Contemporary Art, Bucharest and in Centre for Contemporary Art, Chisinau (2006); „Modell – Verpasste Gelegenheit” in Kunstverein Potsdam (2005) and „La Bauhaus si muove” in Modena (2005).
The videoworks of Sylvie Boisseau and Frank Westermeyer have been broadcasted by the German TV-station3sat and screened at more than 50 festivals in more than 18 countries. They have received the following awards: The Best Foreign Film, »Der freie Mensch«, Red Bank Int. Filmfestival New Jersey, USA (2002); »Cineric« Award for »Der freie Mensch« at New York Film and Video Expo, NYC, USA (2002); The Great Award of the Jury for »Moi vu par …« at 13. Int. Bochum Videofestival (2000); Best Film for »Meine Familie und Ich«, Cinematexas Int. Filmfestival, Austin, TX, USA (1998).
Their works have participated twice in the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, twice in transmediale Berlin, twice in Cinematex in Austin, twice in Videofest Kassel and EMAF Osnabrück, as well as in rencontre Paris / Berlin. Also, their works have been shown at Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul, Duisburger Filmwoche, Mediaart Friesland, Leuwarden, International Short Film Festival Hamburg, International Videofestival Bochum, at Art Film Biennal, Videonale in Bonn, Back-Up Festival Weimar, International Film Festival Rotterdam and International Film Festival Winterthur.
Since 2002 Boisseau & Westermeyer realised interventions in public space in Weimar, Berlin, Geneva and Jena.
2009 their first publication „Chinesisch von Vorteil“ was published by Kerber Verlag.
Both work and live in Düsseldorf and Geneva.
Sylvie Boisseau, born 1970 in Paris, first studied economics in Wuppertal and at Université Paris Sorbonne. From 1996–1998 she worked as assistant to the director Christan Colin during productions at Theatre of Wuppertal and Théâtre Gennevilliers near Paris. She was a student of Christian Boltanski at École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris and graduated from the post-graduate study program Art in public space and new artistic strategies at Bauhaus University Weimar with Master of Fine Arts.
Frank Westermeyer, 1971 born in Essen, studied Communications design at the University Wuppertal with Ursula Wevers and Bazon Brock as well as Fine arts at École Nationale Supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. From 2000-2004 he worked as artistic assistant at the Bauhaus University Weimar. In 2004 he received a teaching assignement at the School of the Art Institute, Chicago. Since then he has also been teaching Media art at the Academy of Art and Design in Geneva.
