Paeonia (“peony“ in English) also goes by the name of “rose without thorns“. It is a symbol of love without affliction. In Christian symbolics it stood for wealth, healing and female beauty. Unfractured romance and beauty, an idealised and stylised affair. Unrealistic, but very very pretty.
