German premiere: ALPI

ALPI, 2011

DCP is not only a new format for cinema films but also a new medium in visual art. We present the German premiere of Armin Linke's ALPI (2011), the result of seven years of research about perceptions of the landscape of the Alps and a journey which took in the eight bordering nations, and even Dubai. The film does not depict the Alps from the point of view of alpine romanticism nor as a source of nature, but firmly grounds them in today's Europe as a hotbed of modernity and its illusions. It is no coincidence that Armin Linke shot the film in analogue 16mm and then transferred it to the DCP format.

"Going to the Alps? Thinking of trekking outdoors? Dreaming of skiing in Switzerland? Watch Armin Linke′s film first. Beware. You will always be inside, deep inside laboratories, factories, ski resorts, or Swiss bunkers hidden in the mountains. Armin Linke has succeeded in doing with film what he has been doing for years with photography: situate the envelopes inside which our existence unfolds. This is the most uncritical film ever made about the utter artificiality of the modern world. But "uncritical" has to be taken just as positively as "artificial." (Bruno Latour, 2011)

Based on a research project of Piero Zanini, Renato Rinaldi and Armin Linke.

We are pleased to welcome Armin Linke, as well as the writer and curator Doreen Mende, to the premiere. (17.6.)
