NOTES ON PASOLINI'S FORM OF A CITY, 2013

In Pier Paolo Pasolini's APPUNTI PER UN'ORESTIADE AFRICANA(Italy 1969, 1.10.), the author's desires with regards to dramatic structure are mixed with an unremittingly colonial look at realities in Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia. The structure of the "notebook film", however, invites the viewer to place Pasolini's vision of a film about post-colonial Africa within a productive triangulization. This is precisely what Sandra Schäfer does in her video work NOTES ON PASOLINI'S FORM OF A CITY (Germany 2013, 3.10.), in which she examines Pasolini's projections before the backdrop of his criticism of modernity. Together with Haile Gerima's radical social satire MIRT SOST SHI AMIT(1975, 3.10.), shot in Ethiopia towards the end of the reign of Haile Selassie, a constellation of different narrations is created over two evenings that refer to one another via divided and ideological references.
