Within three editions of Arab Shorts Festival (2009-2011), organized by Goethe-Institut Cairo 21 curators from the Arab world have shown altogether 139 independent and experimental films and videos from the Arab region. Very diverse works represent a great cultural value that was never considered important enough before both generally and individually. For this reason Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art decided to distribute 61 of the films and make them available on a longterm basis. During the process six of curated programs have been integrated completely: not only the work of the filmmaker, but also the handwriting of the curator is to be considered. 21 further film works were picked individually. The multifacetted program includes feature films, documentaries and video art. In its focus are current works that mirror the diversity of Arab world. The uniting point of all the films is the fact that they bring the conventional and one-dimensional picture of the Arab world into question in their very own way.
The films of the following filmmakers are distributed by Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art: Jumana Emil Abboud, Abdel Abidin, Maher Abi Samra, Mohammed Al Hawajiri, Rheim Alkadhi, Meqdad Al-Kout, Mohammad Alloh, Monira Al Qadiri, Basma Al-Sharif, Ruben Amar, Ziad Antar, Vartan Avakian, Hicham Ayouch, Yacine Mohamed Belhadj, Neil Beloufa, Ammar Bouras, Agathe Dirani, Eslam Zeen El Abedeen, Sherif El Azma, May El Hossamy, Omar El Shamy, Haris Epaminonda, Mahdi Fliefil, Pamela Ghanimeh, Ahmad Ghossein, Joude Gorani, Mohamed Hammad, Eyad Hamam, Mohssin Harraki, Iman Issa, Annemarie Jacir, Ihab Jadallah, Fadma Kaddouri, Sahim Omar Kalifa, Abdallah Kawash, Omar Khaled, Bouchra Khalili, Nadine Khan, Kasem Kharsa, Maha Maamoun, Sandra Madi, Basim Magdy, Walid Mattar, Oussama Mohammad, Rabih Mroué, Wael Noureddine, Toni Serra (aka Abu Ali), Solmaz Shahbazi, Wael Shawky, Ehab Tarabieh, Firas Taybeh, Ghada Terawi, Oraib Toukan, Mufid Younis, Mohamed Zayan, Sameh Zoabi.
