The Sounding Archive – An Automated Score

The Arsenal Archive contains 8000 films – worlds of visuals and sounds stored in boxes on shelves creating a list of names and numbers. This silent body of names/letters and numbers is at the core of the archive together with the physical body of the films themselves.
By assigning specific musical/sound parameters – specific frequency, density, duration, instruments, key a.o. – to the letters and numbers of every title in that core list, the data/filmtitles will generate a score which will be mostly determined by the data itself, thus creating an automated score/piece which translates the silent body of this archival list into a sounding body, which then can be performed by musicians/electronics or be reproduced as loop.
