Forty-four-year-old Adam Miauczynski dozes half-awake in bed one morning. He is scared of getting up. He swears and crosses himself. Then – he is ‘numerologist’ – he exercises until exactly 7 o’clock, drinks seven sips of mineral water, washes himself while counting (several times) to seven, and pours seven handfuls of oatmeal into his bowl. In order to avoid eating alone, he sits in front of the television and is depressed by news about disunity in parliament. Adam takes Prozac (to increase his joie de vivre), Geriavit (against ageing) and Nootropil (to improve his intellectual capabilities). He stirs his coffee seven times: four times to the right, three times to the left. Then he reads. Music again booms out from below. Suddenly there is a loud noise outside the window. Adam storms outside and screams at a man mowing the lawn. “The Day of the Wacko is my craziest film to date, as crazy as its main character. Adam Miauczy´nski is a divorced, frustrated intellectual and Polish teacher who loves his adolescent son. The film is about the hell of the next five minutes and an act of complete artistic freedom, a film without a conventional plot and freed of all models, a film about the most intimate, painful and beautiful things in life – and about those that cause me the most anguish.” Marek Koterski
