DAAD grant holder Marie Losier

THE BALLAD OF GENESIS AND LADY JAYE, 2011

The French filmmaker Marie Losier is currently a guest of the DAAD's artist-in-residence program in Berlin. She made her breakthrough on the German screens in 2012 with THE BALLAD OF GENESIS AND LADY JAYE (USA/F 2011), an intimate, moving portrait about the life and work of the musical pioneer Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and his partner Lady Jaye. She had already portrayed other protagonists of the underground in her singular fashion, including Richard Foreman, Mike and George Kuchar, Guy Maddin and Tony Conrad. Her stars are her friends, with whom she dances, plays and eats. What barely anyone knows is that she began her series of portraits with silent movie stars. She also slipped right into the skin of Jeanne d'Arc.. (21. & 22.3.)
