Filmspotting: Exploring the Deutsche Kinemathek’s Film Archive

OLDÁS ÉS KÖTÉS, 1963

Ambrus Járom is a successful heart surgeon from a farming family who is plunged into a deep personal crisis following a heart operation masterfully carried out by his former professor. The young doctor starts to doubt his previous life path and sets off on a journey to his roots. Before the backdrop of the social upheavals in the Socialist Hungary of the 60s, OLDÁS ÉS KÖTÉS (Cantata, Hungary 1963), the second feature by Miklós Jancsó, poses the question of tradition and modernity and reveals how a generation looks for its identity while watching old authorities die. Part of the Collegium Hungaricum’s former film collection, OLDÁS ÉS KÖTÉS has recently been added to the Deutschen Kinemathek’s distribution range. (ah) (27.8.)
