DER GOLEM – WIE ER IN DIE WELT KAM, 1920

In 16th century-Prague, Rabbi Loew creates the Golem, a giant made of clay, to protect the community from evil. But then the Golem can no longer be kept under control. DER GOLEM – WIE ER IN DIE WELT KAM (The Golem: How He Came into the World, G 1920), Paul Wegener’s adaptation of this Jewish folktale is one of the indisputable classics of the silent era. The set, the lighting and the Golem itself were pioneering, becoming exemplary of an entire genre. The Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation has restored the 4K classic from an original negative that was recently rediscovered.
In cooperation with Filmuniversität Babelsberg and the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation. On piano: Richard Siedhoff (ah) (28.1.)
