From Oct. 28 through Nov. 11 2009 the Arsenal Institute presented "LIVE FILM! JACK SMITH! Five Flaming Days in a Rented World", our first major cooperation with HAU – Hebbel am Ufer. The festival, curated by Stefanie Schulte Strathaus, Marc Siegel and Susanne Sachsse, invited over 50 international artists and scholars, paying homage to the pioneering American underground artist and queer icon, Jack Smith. Through performances, films and videos, slide shows, exhibitions, concerts, lectures, and discussions, not only offered a variety of perspectives on the gender and genre bending work of Smith, Andy Warhol and fellow 60's avant-gardists, but also situated Smith's work with that of a diverse group of contemporary artists.
The works which were commissioned by the Arsenal Institute for this festival are now all available through arsenal distribution. They can be booked individually as well as a whole package. For all inquiries regarding rental conditions please contact distribution(at)
