Als Teenager hatte Karin Schwierigkeiten damit, einen Sinn in ihrer Existenz zu finden, und beging mehrere Selbstmordversuche. Die Philosophie der ultra-rechtsgerichteten Nationalisten rettete sie. Sie und ihr ‘Genosse’ Ito schlossen sich zu einer Band zusammen und machten nationalistische Punk-Musik. Der links stehende Filmemacher Tsuchiya, ein unbeugsamer Anti-Imperialist, beschließt, Karin eine Video-Kamera zu geben, mit der sie sich und ihren Alltag filmen soll, und geht eine sonderbare Beziehung mit dem Paar ein.
Karin reist mit der Kamera nach Nordkorea und trifft dort ehemalige Terroristen der Roten Armee, die vor zwanzig Jahren an Bord eines entführten Flugzeugs aus Japan geflüchtet sind. Die Kamera läuft und läuft, und Karin verändert sich allmählich. Sie beschließt, die politische Organisation zu verlassen und macht die ersten Schritte hin zu einer unabhängigeren Persönlichkeit.
Ein ehrlicher und humorvoller Dokumentarfilm über die neuen Japaner, in dem es um provokative Fragen zu Staat und Individuum, zu Abhängigkeit und Autonomie geht. Durch den merkwürdigen Austausch der drei entsteht ein Bild des heutigen Japans, das verzweifelt auf der Suche nach einer soliden Basis ist.

As a teenager, Karin had problems finding a meaning to her existence in society and repeatedly attempted suicide. It was the philosophy of the ultra rightwing nationalists that saved her. She and her comrade Ito put together a band and started playing nationalist punk music.
Leftwing filmmaker Tsuchiya, an unbending anti-imperialist, decides to give Karin a video camera to shoot herself and her daily life, and starts a peculiar threeway relationship with the couple. Camera on board, Karin travels to North Korea and meets former Red Army terrorists who fled from Japan aboard a hijacked plane twenty years ago. As the camera keeps rolling, so does Karin. She decides to leave the political organization and makes her first steps towards a more independent persona.
An honest and humorous postdocumentary about the new Japanese that deals with provocative issues of the state vs. the individual, and dependence vs. autonomy. Through this odd exchange a picture emerges of the Japanese today, desperate to find a place of solid grounding.

Yutaka Tsuchiya wurde am 11. Dezember 1966 in Gunma (Japan) geboren. Er dreht seit 1990 Videos. 1994 begann er mit der Veröffentlichung der freien Video-Reihe Without television. Seit 1998 leitet er die unabhängige Videoproduktion Video Act!. Er engagiert sich für die Netzwerke von Medienaktivisten.
Tsuchiya Yutaka was born on December 11th, 1966 in Gunma (Japan). He began video production in 1990. In 1994 he started releasing the shareware free-videos Without television. From 1998 he supervised the independent video circulation project Video Act! He continues activities to broaden the network of media activists.
