The film begins on the rooftop of an apartment, where grandmother and her granddaughter spread out red peppers to dry in the sun. The ritualistic event, held by grandmother, serves as a family gathering even if it is done individually, and provides this indifferent family a chance to converse with each other. Since the drying process happens at home, a domestic realm, this event is especially meaningful for women. The film’s goal to achieve reconciliation among women in the family is fulfilled when they gather on the rooftop, and the act of filmmaking is revealed at the end. The film also uses re-enactment as a filmic device as the grandmother plays herself and comments on her role just as the mother does. Such re-enactment functions to defuse the boundary between reality and film.
