Dies ist die Geschichte einer kleinen Insel im Süden Japans. Eines Tages beobachtet Nanako, die gerade dorthin zurückgekehrt ist, Nabbie und SunRa in einer leidenschaftlichen Umarmung vor einem Grabstein. Sie beschließt, niemandem davon zu erzählen. Es ist der Beginn einer großen Liebesgeschichte, die alle Inselbewohner verstört. Schnell verbreiten sich Gerüchte über die beiden. Nabbie stammt aus einer geachteten, traditionsbewußten Familie. Deshalb besteht die Prophetin und Herrscherin der Insel, Yuta, darauf, SunRa von der Insel zu vertreiben.
Keitatsu erzählt Nanako von der tragischen Liebesgeschichte, die sich vor sechzig Jahren abgespielt hat. Nabbie wurde danach wegen des sozialen Status ihrer Familie gezwungen, sich von SunRa zu trennen. SunRa mußte nach Übersee auswandern. Aber Nabbie konnte ihn nicht vergessen und schrieb ihm jedes Jahr nach dem ‘Bull Festival’. Eines Morgens gehen Keitatsu und Fukunosuke wie gewöhnlich zur Farm. Nanako bringt ihnen ihre Lunchpakete. Als sie nach Hause zurückkehrt, ist Nabbie verschwunden. Nanako beginnt sofort, nach ihr zu suchen. Vom Strand aus sieht sie Nabbie und SunRa in einem kleinen Boot auf das offene Meer hinausfahren. Nanako erkennt Nabbies starken Willen und wird sich zum ersten Mal bewußt, daß auch sie selbst die Kraft und den Mut besitzt, ihren eigenen Weg zu gehen.

This is a story of a small southern island. One day, Nanako sees Nabbie and SunRa in a passionate embrace in front of a big tombstone. Suddenly it starts to rain and Old Man Kadekaru and his wife Misako start to sing a love song. Nanako decides to keep the scene to herself. This is the start of a big love affair, which disturbs and affects everybody on the island. The rumour about Nabbie and SunRa spreads fast. Nabbie is from a respected traditional family. Her relatives gather and hold a family meeting. The prophet Yuta, ruler of the island, insists on kicking SunRa off the island. Nabbie begs her not to do so. The meeting ends with Nabbie being told not to see SunRa again. Just as she was told 60 years ago.
Keitatsu explains to Nanako what happened between Nabbie and SunRa 60 years ago. It was a tragic love story. Nabbie fell desperately in love with SunRa but was forced to separate from him because of her family position. SunRa had to move overseas. Nabbie could not forget SunRa and she had written him a letter every year after the annual Bull festival night. One quiet morning after a seasonal storm, Keitatsu and Fukunosuke go to the ranch as usual. Nanako brings them their lunch boxes and when she comes back, she finds Nabbie is not at home. Instinctively, Nanako starts looking for Nabbie. On the beach she sees Nabbie and SunRa in a small boat moving towards the ocean.
