Was das ‘Schicksal’ den meisten Zeitgenossen allenfalls in homöopathischen Dosen zuführte, ereilte Daniele von Arb frontal: Aufbruch einer jugendlichen Subkultur in den 60er Jahren, militanter Kampf gegen das ‘System’ in den 70ern, No-Future-Kater nach der ‘bleiernen Zeit’ und das Aufdämmern einer esoterischen ‘Wendezeit’ im New Age der 80er Jahre und schließlich das ‘anything goes’ nach der ideologischen Demobilisierung, die Privatisierung der Welt und der ‘ökonomische Terror’ in den 90ern. Daniele von Arbs Geschichte ist der Hohlspiegel, in dem wir – oft grotesk überzeichnet, dafür aber um so deutlicher – die Zeit und die Welt erkennen, in der auch wir gelebt haben. Sie bündelt die Vielfalt dessen, was in den letzten Jahrzehnten an Verstrickungen denkbar war. In ihren Utopien, Mythen, Feindbildern, Sehnsüchten spiegelt sich das Lebensgefühl einer ganzen Generation. Wir erzählen die Geschichte von einem, der auszog, um die Ungerechtigkeit und die Unterdrückung aus der Welt zu schaffen. Im Zentrum stehen menschliche Gefühle, Bedürfnisse und Erfahrungen. He experienced at full force that which ‘fate’ had dealt in homeopathic doses if at all to many of his contemporaries: the birth of a youth subculture in the Sixties, the militant fight against ‘the system’ in the Seventies, the No Future hangover after the ‘heavy era’ and the blossoming of an esoteric New Age ‘turning point’ in the Eighties and eventually the anything-goes mentality which followed the ideological demobilisation ushered in by the privatisation of the world and the ‘economic terror’ of the Nineties. Daniele von Arb’s story is a concave mirror which reflects – often grotesquely exaggerated, but thereby all the more vividly – the times and the world in which we have lived. His story and that of those who played an important role in his life brings together all that which was entangled in the last decades. Their utopias, myths, perceived enemies and yearnings mirror the values of an entire generation. Our film tells the story of a man who set out to rid the world of injustice and oppression. Audiences do not need an encyclopaedic knowledge of politics and history to understand the story, for it focuses on human feelings, needs and experience. Just like Shakespeare’s dramas, the ‘great’ historical links form the framework for an exemplary, allegorical story that transcends the time in which it takes place.
