Amerika im Schnelldurchlauf: Die deutsche Punkband ‘Die Goldenen Zitronen‘ ist gemeinsam mit dem schizophrenen Rocksta Wesley Willis auf Tournee. Die Tour ist für die Band und Wesley Willis eine Zweckgemeinschaft auf engstem Raum. Die Biografien prallen aufeinander. Auf der einen Seite eine deutsche Band, die seit achtzehn Jahren an der Nahtstelle zwischen Musik und Politik steht, auf der anderen Seite Wesley, der auf die Bühne muss, um die Dämonen in seinem Kopf zu beruhigen. Die monotone US-amerikanische Provinz, Fastfood, schlechter Kaffee, Begegnungen mit jugendlichen Fans: Vierzehn Tage lang, Bus- Gig-Bus-Gig... von San Francisco über Las Vegas bis an die mexikanische Grenze. Golden Lemons: ein dokumentarisches Roadmovie – eine Bilanz – ein Trip zu den Dämonen. Um Wesley drehte sich beinahe alles während dieser Tour. Er bestimmte den Rhythmus und die Geschwindigkeit. Schließlich tourt er mehrere Monate im Jahr durch ganz Amerika. Während der langen Fahrten saß er fast den ganzen Tag im hinteren Teil des Busses und spielte Keyboard. Seinem Schicksal kann man sich nicht entziehen. Wer sieht, was er durch seine psychischen Erkrankungen wie Schizophrenie und Autismus erleiden muss, und was er tut, um aus diesem Tal herauszukommen, will mehr über ihn wissen. Jörg Siepmann

America in fast-forward mode: German punk band ‘Die Goldenen Zitronen’ (The Golden Lemons) is on tour with schizophrenic rock star Wesley Willis. For both the band and Wesley, the tour is a marriage of convenience in close proximity. In theory, they are worlds apart. On the one side, there is the German band that has walked the thin line between music and politics for eighteen years. On the other, there is Wesley, driven onto the stage to purge himself of the demons haunting his mind. The monotonous wilds of the United States of America, fast food, bad cups of coffee, encounters with young fans: it’s fourteen days of bus, gig, bus, gig, from San Francisco via Las Vegas to the Mexican border; fourteen appearances as Wesley’s support band playing to an audience that doesn’t speak any German. Golden Lemons: a documentary road movie, an assessment, a trip to the demons. Nearly everything revolved around Wesley during the tour. He set the pace and the rhythm. After all, he spends several months a year touring right around America. During the long journeys, Wesley spent nearly all day in the back of the bus playing his keyboard. Wesley’s background is impossible to ignore. Just seeing how much he suffers from mental problems such as schizophrenia and autism, and what he does to climb out of this abyss makes you want to know more about him. Jörg Siepmann

Jörg Siepmann, geb. 1966 in Essen. Studium des Fotodesign in Dortmund und Köln. 1998 Gründung der Produktionsfirma 2 Pilots gemeinsam mit Harry Flöter. Kurzfilme seit 1994, u.a. Two days grey (1995), Silverstar (2000). Golden Lemons ist sein erster langer Dokumentarfilm.
