Drei Frauen aus der Provinz wollen sich in Peking eine neue Existenz aufbauen und werden zu Nachtschwärmerinnen: Yu Quin landet als Hosteß in einem Edel-Nachtclub, Hu Jin versucht sich als Schauspielerin und Model, Zun Ji schließlich, die ihre Junkie-Vergangenheit und Selbstmordgedanken vertreiben will, wirbelt als Königin der Nacht durch Pekings Diskotheken. Yu Lik-wai wurde 1966 in Hongkong geboren. 1994 beendete er sein Filmstudium an der INSAS in Belgien. Er arbeitet als Kameramann (u.a. Xiao Wu, 1996) und Regisseur. Three provincial girls debark in Beijing. Eachs seeks success in
the capital. Yu Quin, with a music degree, set out from her native
village, leaving her two year old daughter behind. She works as a bar
hostess in a night-club frequented by the nomenclature and the
nouveau-riche, but retains a nostalgia for the past. Hu Jin, following
her intuition, deserted her studies to seek her fortune in the
labyrinthine city. Bit part player and 'model' in Beijing's studios,
her search is sown with misadventure. After several suicide attempts,
Zun Jia, a repentant junkie, becomes a 'dancing-queen' in Beijing's
discotheques. Rebellious and 'devil may care', she dances to celebrate
the small hours of the centuries old city and forget her heavy
past. |
