Die Taverniers, Vater und Sohn, haben drei Monate in einem Pariser Vorort verbracht und das Leben seiner Bewohner gefilmt, ''um eine Menge Klischees zu widerlegen, die es über die Vorstädte gibt. Wir haben nichts weggelassen, um auch zu zeigen, daß man die Situation dort nicht auf das Verhältnis zwischen Polizei und Delinquenten reduzieren kann. Denn in einem Viertel wie Grands Pêcheurs gibt es ein dichtes Netz an Solidarität, an gegenseitiger Hilfe, es werden politische Forderungen gestellt, Kämpfe ausgefochten.'' |
''It all began on February 11th, 1997. On the initiative of Pascale Ferran and Arnaud Desplechin, 66 filmmakers followed a call to civil desobedience, protesting against the Debré law, especially the first article. On February 12th, I received, along with everyone who signed the manifesto, a letter from Eric Raoult (then minister for municipal affairs and integration, ed. note), inviting me to spend one month in a suburb, in my case in the distribt of Grands Pêcheurs in Montreuil. A few days later, inhabitants of Grands Pêcheurs contacted me, inviting me to meet them. On arrival, 250 people were waiting for me. They felt shocked, hurt and insulted by the minister's letter. The idea for this film was born then, to provide them with an opportunity to talk about their problems, their struggles, their lives - and their anger.'' Bertrand Tavernier |
