Since then, five more films have been made, more than ten years have passed and so much has happened. Over the years, we've followed the lives of Sylvia and Dietmar, Papa, Renate and a handful of others; the fall of the wall and the aftermath, the elections, the currency union, the ability to travel at will wherever and whenever, the end of the GDR, German reunification and the time that followed. In The Big Wide World, the latest and probably the last film in the series, we meet them all one more time to hear their stories and dreams. A slice of life - as it was then, and as it is now.''
