The Studio Baalbeck, located in a suburb of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, was once one of the largest and most important film production studios in the Arab world, but it has lied in ruins since the civil war. IN THE RUINS OF BAALBECK STUDIOS explores its heyday in the 1960s and 1970s, when it attracted filmmakers from Syria to Egypt. The film combines archival and archaeological questions by tracing the loss and destruction of film heritage and the connection between film history, places and cultural memory.
