Cheap People Are Other People (Parts 3–5)

The Vaginal Davis: Fabelhaftes Produkt exhibition at Gropius Bau runs until 14.9., taking a look Davis’ oeuvre to date, which was always created in a collaborative context. Since she moved to Berlin, Vaginal Davis has been part of the CHEAP artists’ collective, whose installation Choose Mutation, mit Fotografien von Annette Frick forms part of the exhibition. The film CHEAP PEOPLE ARE OTHER PEOPLE 1–5 (2020) attempts to use samples and repetition to rethink the relationships between model and copy, past and present, one body and the next. “Life plans are also never singular, unique and without precedent, they always emerge in relationship to or via imitation of others.” From 2007-2018, Ms Davis presented the series “Rising Stars, Falling Stars” at Arsenal at Potsdamer Platz. Anyone who is missing the seats from Kino 2 there – where the series used to be held – will find them at the exhibition. The seats from Kino 1 will soon be appearing in entirely new garb.
