NACH DEM SPIEL by Aysun Bademsoy (After the Game, Germany, 1997) is the second part of a long-term observation series about Europe's first Turkish women's soccer team, which was founded in Kreuzberg. The first part was Mädchen am Ball Girls (On the Ball, 1995) and the fourth part, Spielerinnen (Game Changers, 2024), was released in theaters last May. It is 1997 and the season is coming to an end; the five young protagonists are going to stop playing soccer. They don't know exactly what the future holds for them. Apprenticeships are few and far between, and without money, they will not be able to gain independence from their strict parents. But for now, the young women are enjoying a Berlin summer together one last time. One film, three contexts: NACH DEM SPIEL is being shown as part of Spätschicht, an interdisciplinary live program at the Gropius Bau which in October will be focused on the theme of football, in collaboration with Outreach Berlin. At the same time, the St Nicholas Church Museum is inaugurating the Heute noch, morgen schon exhibition (Still today, tomorrow already) on the social transformation of Berlin before, during, and after 1990. Arsenal on Location between decades and generations. (Stefanie Schulte Strathaus)
