zu dem KalenderImmediately establishing its visual force, the film begins with stunning underwater footage of the depths of the sea. The ten-year-old Nicolas believes he saw a child's corpse while diving. This makes him suspicious of the goings on in the insular village community. Only adult women with expressionless faces and suction cups on their backs and little boys live here. The women serve worms for dinner, meet at night for strange rituals on the beach, and take the boys to the hospital for surgical procedures on their stomachs. The combination of body horror and dystopian sci-fi evokes a hypnotic atmosphere of constant unease. (bik)
