Shorts III (1971-1982)

ŽVAHLAV (Jabberwocky, 1971) The recitation of Lewis Carroll's poem is followed by a freely animated presentation of childhood images and toys that are repeatedly knocked over by a cat. LEONARDŮV DENÍK (Leonardo's Diary, 1972) Animated drawings inspired by Leonardo da Vinci are interrupted by seemingly unrelated (but actually strangely similar) live-action scenes. OTRANSKÝ ZÁMEK (The Castle of Otranto, 1973) In this mockumentary, an amateur archaeologist sets out to prove that Horace Walpole's Gothic novel is set not in Italy but in the Castle of Otranto near Nachod in Czechoslovakia. ZÁNIK DOMU USHERŮ (Fall of the House of Usher, 1980) In this animated version of Edgar Allan Poe's short story, a traveler arrives at the Usher family's mansion and discovers that the siblings who live there suffer from a mysterious family curse. MOŽNOSTI DIALOGU (Dimensions of Dialogue, 1982) Three surreal depictions of communication failures: “Factual Discussion,” “Passionate Discourse,” and “Exhaustive Discussion.”
