DO SKLEPA (Down to the Cellar, 1982) A little girl goes down to the cellar to fetch potatoes and finds all her hidden fears about the cellar depicted in animated form. KYVADLO-JAMA-NADĚJE (The Pendulum, the Pit and Hope, 1983) A surrealist version of Edgar Allan Poe's “The Pit and the Pendulum.” JINÝ DRUH LÁSKY (Another Kind of Love, 1988) Svankmajer's music video for Hugh Cornwell's “Another Kind of Love.” MUŽNÉ HRY (Virile Games, 1988) A man sits down to watch a soccer game, in which the players are brutally mutilated in various imaginative ways. FLORA (1989) The last moments of a creature made of fruit and vegetables. TMA-SVĚTLO-TMA (Darkness-Light-Darkness, 1989) A human body gradually deconstructs itself until the individual components accumulate in a confined space and, after some experimentation, finally sort themselves out where they belong. ZAMILOVANÉ MASO (Meat Love, 1989) Two pieces of meat fall in love with each other. KONEC STALINISMU V ČECHACH (The Death of Stalinism in Bohemia, 1990) A bust of Stalin is cut open on an operating table, after which there is an elaborate animated representation of Czech history from 1948 to 1989. JÍDLO (The Food, 1992) Breakfast, lunch, and dinner—an absurd exploration of bad manners and dysfunctional relationships.
