Kathleen und Eldridge Cleaver in Algiers

In January 1970, Claudia von Alemann filmed the co-founders of the Black Panther Party, Kathleen and Eldridge Cleaver, who had been living in exile in Algiers since 1969. In two statements, they formulated their demands for the release of fellow activists Ericka Huggins and Bobby Seale, who had been accused of murdering an alleged informant.

Das ist nur der Anfang, der Kampf geht weiter

May 1968, Paris, France. Eight million people are on strike. Police storm the barricades, while students protest at the Sorbonne, occupying the university and forcing it to open its doors to the social struggles and debates challenging traditional institutions. What is the role of film in all this? What function can film have in this movement? How can filmmakers get involved in the context of a cultural policy in need of redefining? And how can their demands be implemented in cinematic practice? In this film, film students, schoolchildren, workers from the Citroën plant and other factories, as well as established directors such as Jean-Luc Godard participate in the debates and altercations that took place within the film collectives that emerged in May 68.
