B-Movie, Hamburg: A Filmed City: Berlin

Film still from BERLIN - BAHNHOF FRIEDRICHSTRASSE: A man plays the cello and sits on a street. Next to it is an old railway station building and the Berlin television tower in the background.

Berlin – a city of ruptures, empty spaces and constant change – has always been a location and an object of projection for cinematic narratives. The series “A Filmed City” shows selected documentary positions that explore the city in poetic and personal fashion The periphery comes to the fore and dominant images of the city fade into the background. During the era of reunification in particular, the camera became an instrument of reflection and exploration for both these ideas.

Rarely screened films by Irena Vrkljan and Chetna Vora form a special focus here. Irena Vrkljan came to West Berlin from the former Yugoslavia to study at the DFFB, while Chetna Vora from India studied at the HFF in Potsdam-Babelsberg in East Germany. Their works open up multiple perspectives on the urban topography and social realities of a divided city. We are very happy to welcome documentary filmmakers, cinema workers and those somewhere in between to B-Movie to present the films: Lilly Grote, Cornelia Klauß, Gerd Kroske and Annette Lingg.

With the friendly support of the MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein.
