Filmhaus Nürnberg: Magical History Tour: Cheers! A Compact Guide to Onscreen Celebrations

As a look at the thesaurus reveals, the word celebration is linked to a large number of related concepts. But a look at the world of cinema reveals a truly inexhaustible reservoir of different images and sounds relating to celebrations. From sweatily joyful to tragic, festivities on the big screen are employed to create dramatic sleights of hand and convey social dynamics, represent social or political circumstances, carve out different formal paths and sometimes show the dark side of the festive mood. The mood will be entirely festive in September and October in Nürnberg, where the Filmhaus is celebrating its 25^th anniversary. That’s reason enough to put on an edition of the Magical History Tour that offers a compact guide to cinematic celebrations.
