FU Berlin / Seminar für Filmwissenschaft:
 Under Construction:
Architectures, Institutions, Relocations (2)

Arsenal and the Department for Film Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin have collaborated for many years, not least in the area of film historical education: generations of fledgling students have attended the Magical History Tour at the Arsenal cinema over the course of their film history courses. As part of Arsenal on Location, Arsenal has now turned the tables and will, like in May, be guesting once again this month at the FU’s lecture hall with three more events.
The film program “Under Construction” doesn’t just reference Arsenal’s move and reconstruction, but also Siegfried Kracauer’s idea of history as an interstitial space yet to be recognized, extending the same idea to encompass architectures, institutions and relocations in cinema. The films in the program link together micro- and macro-narratives: the move into a new building is around the corner, an internationally renowned institution reinvents itself, the rubble of a film studio serves as a starting point for a search for lost film history, a predesigned city in the desert seems to remain an eternal building site and Berlin of the post-war/East German/post-reunification era is constantly being (re-)constructed.

The length of the introductory lectures is approx. 25 minutes. Moderation: Angela Jouini (FU Berlin). Free admission but please register at theater@zedat.fu-berlin.de

At Hörsaal des Instituts für Theaterwissenschaft, Grunewaldstr. 35, 12165 Berlin
