Kino des DFF, Campus Westend,
Frankfurt am Main: Reassembling
Archival Assemblies

The Master's program “Film Culture: Archiving, Programming, Presentation” at Goethe University Frankfurt prepares academic staff for work in film and media archives and other institutions of film culture. Since 2014, there has been a cooperation with Arsenal, which includes internships for students, as well as regular excursions to the Berlinale and, since 2021, the newly founded Archival Assembly festival.
Arsenal on Location now enables a change of direction: Reassembling Archival Assemblies is a series of film screenings, all taking place on one day at different locations in Frankfurt, that explore the first three Archival Assembly editions of 2021, 2023 and 2024. Originally conceived as a biennial festival with a symposium and emphasis on the artistic, social and political significance of archival practices, Archival Assembly has become a source for reinterpretation, reworking and reconfiguration that seek unexpected connections and contexts. The screenings will be curated and presented by the film culture Master's students. Reassembling Archival Assemblies is a collaboration between the Master's program in Film Culture, the DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut und Filmmuseum and Arsenal. The events will take place in the DFF cinema and at Campus Westend. (stss/lm)
