Two million people were resettled because of the construction of the gigantic Three Gorges Dam, including 100,000 inhabitants of the historical "City of Poetry", Fengjie, the hometown of Li Bai (701–762), one of China's most important poets. In YAN MO (China 2005, Jan. 18), Li Yifan and Yan Yu documented the brutal resettlement and the destruction of an entire city for two years. "Before we travelled to Fengjie, many of our friends thought we would capture the beauty and spirit of this "City of Poetry" in our film. But when we were on location, it was impossible for us to respond with poetry to the tears of a war veteran or the daily life of a group of carriers who live there in misery like dogs." (Li Yifan, Yan Yu) Li Yifang will be present as a guest at the discussion afterwards.
Thanks to the Asian Hot Shots Berlin and Michael Brynntrup. Li Yifan is visiting Germany on the invitation of the film class of the HBK Braunschweig and the ASIAN HOT SHOTS BERLIN film festival. At the ASIAN HOT SHOTS, he will participate in a panel on the topic of censorship.
