Following its successful cinema release in November, Guy Maddin’s MY WINNIPEG (Canada 2007) is now available on DVD at Filmgalerie 451 as part of the arsenal edition range.
It may be three years old but is still a valuable news item: The curators Anselm Franke and Hila Peleg selected five films from Arsenal's collection for Manifesta7, which they showed in the vaults of a fortress in Fortezza, South Tyrol. One of the rediscoveries was BARN RUSHES by the American experimental filmmaker Larry Gottheim (1971, 36 minutes) about which Tony Conrad once wrote: "…elegant yet rustic in its simplicity of execution; tugged gently toward different sides of the set by hints of color and motion interactions, positive and negative spaces, etc., and the unyielding delivery on one of the great apotheoses of poetic cinema at fade-out time." The presentation at Manifesta7 not only allowed the film to be digitalized but a new copy to be purchased.
