We use AI to examine how digital fragmentation and alienation are accelerated by AI systems, to outline their use in normalizing and enforcing modes of online and self-performance, to show how through them sexist narratives are instrumentalized to render digital spaces hostile, especially for women (e.g. unconsensual deepfake porn, undressing with grok).
Generative AI systems are trained on vast amounts of internet data to become ‘intelligent’.
Therefore, by default, AI systems contain biases, sexism and problematic stereotypes and reproduce them without any moral restrictions or reflection.
How do we appear through the lens of those systems?
We interviewed a self-trained chatbot, tracing what is left of the constructed and performed self after it has been reassembled by machines.
The result is less an insight into a technology of surveillance and control, and more a reflection, a simulated self, our simulated self, echoing a longing for humanness.
