Female Artists' Program

BIANCA ODER: LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED

For the 9th time, we are presenting the film projects and grant-holders that have received funding from the Female Artists' Program of the Berlin Senate Chancellery for Cultural Affairs over the last two years.

The event is an intensive working meeting where questions are thrown up and artistic approaches discussed, a meeting which makes clear what the specific quality of this funding program lies: appreciating how women search for new, exciting stories that grasp the marginal as an opportunity.

Queer, transsexual identities, the probing of trauma within society and families, questioning one’s own identity within manifold role attributions, the search for related avenues of thought within interdisciplinary approaches, and the challenging of social and sociopolitical currents are just some of the themes that run through the program and find their expression in titles such as BECOMING BLACK, VOICES (working title), ÜBERSETZEN/ÜBERLEBEN, STEHT NOCH DAHIN, FROZEN CONFLICT (working title), BIG BUSINESS.

We open the series with AUS EINEM JAHR DER NICHTEREIGNISSE (2017) by Ann Carolin Renninger and René Frölke. Across the changing seasons, the film sketches a portrait of the everyday existence of a resolute, somewhat disheveled old man, which functions at the same time a visual essay about the cycle of life. The images transcend mere depiction, they contain a feeling of transience only amplified by the fragility of the Super-8 and 16mm material used.

Further project presentations from Leila Albayaty, Gamma Bak, Melissa Dullius, Janine Jembere & Nika Breithaupt, Ines Johnson-Spain, Christine Lemke, Antonia Lerch, Petra Lottje, Karolin Meunier, Henrike Meyer, Sharon Paz, Anne-Christine Plate, Lisa Rave, Anette Rose, Meggie Schneider, Clarissa Thieme, Justin Time, Steffi Wurster, Juliane Zelwies. A program magazine gives further information about these and other funded works (ara) (2.–5.11.)
