The DEFA Foundation presents: Films by Marion Rasche

HANS IM GLÜCK, 1990

The DEFA Foundation dedicates its monthly film slot to the director Marion Rasche, who received the DEFA Award for her services to German film on 13th December 2019. Born in 1944, Rasche began her career in 1976 as a dramaturge at the DEFA studio for animated films in Dresden. In 1981, she became the studio's head dramaturge and not long afterwards its artistic director. In 1988, she gave up her position and started working as a director. She made several short animated films using various techniques, including flat-figure animation in DER LANGE WEG (1989) and silhouette animation in HANS IM GLÜCK (1990). After the DEFA was disbanded, Rasche switched from animated films to documentaries. She made a series of different productions for various television stations, including portraits of the painters A.R. Penck (1992), Georg Baselitz (1999) and Achim Freyer (2014). In many cases, her films demonstrate a close relationship with her adopted home Dresden. (pz) (6.1.)
