70 mm: 2001 – A SPACE ODYSSEY

[Translate to english:] 2001 – A SPACE ODYSSEY, 1965-68

After a six-month break, we are continuing our 70 mm series and by popular demand once again screening Stanley Kubrick's 2001 - A SPACE ODYSSEY (GB/USA 1965-68, 1. & 19.9.). Shot in Super Panavision 70, this film in four parts, which is "more mythological than sci-fi" (Stanley Kubrick), traces evolution from primates to computers. In 2001, a mysterious, ray-emitting monolith, which aliens are presumed to use as an "observation station", is discovered on the moon. A spacecraft with five scientists and the HAL 9000 supercomputer on board is dispatched to the area of Jupiter to find its origins. We will screen the version presented by Christopher Nolan in 2018 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the film's world premiere: "This is a true photochemical film recreation. There are no digital tricks, remastered effects, or revisionist edits.“ (hjf)
