Hans im Glück – Drei Versuche, das Rauchen loszuwerden

The Swiss filmmaker and author Peter Liechti (1951-2014) was a virtuoso of word and image composition, a radical and experimental crosser of borders, who questioned people, places, and landscapes in his work, with acute intellect and humor, and always defended his artistic independence. This monograph recently published by Hannes Brühwiler and David Wegmüller comprises essays by international authors and broadens the view beyond Liechti's cinematic oeuvre to his literary and artistic work. It includes previously unpublished texts, drawings, and photos from his estate. After the reading, there will be a screening of HANS IM GLÜCK - DREI VERSUCHE, DAS RAUCHEN LOSZUWERDEN. In the film, Liechti goes on three walks from Zurich to St. Gallen to kick his nicotine habit, accompanied only by his camera and notepad. This self-imposed smoking ban leads to a comical confrontation with himself and his Swiss homeland. (Birgit Kohler)
