The Arsenal has an extensive collection of audio recordings dating back to its early years, which we are gradually digitising. Most of these are recordings of discussions between directors and audiences, initially recorded after screenings at the Berlinale Forum and later also at the Arsenal.

Arsenal 60ff. Film Talks from 5 Decades

The audience discussions at the Berlinale Forum are legendary: they are enthusiastic, interested, profound, honest and enlightening – on the part of the filmmakers and the audience. Most of the talks were recorded and have since been digitized. In order to recover this cultural treasure, Arsenal presents selected conversations as podcasts and contextualizes them in dialogue with experts.

Archival Assembly #3 Listening Sessions

The theme of Archival Assembly #3 (17 to 22 Sept 2024) was „Resounding Archives: The Politics of Listening to the Moving Image“. At migas, a listening bar the audience could listen to five listening sessions dealing with the sounds of filmarchives: Didi Cheeka (Nigeria), Filipa César and Marinho de Pina (Germany/Guinea-Bissau), Johannes Praetorius-Rhein and Jonas Schöneberg (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt); Sara Pinheiro (Národní filmový archiv Prag), Arsenal Filminstitut (Berlin).
