The writer Ilse Aichinger once described the medium of film as “the art of disappearance". In this first part of his “Anthology of Cinema,” Bitomsky explores film's relationship with life and death. Speaking in front of the camera, he journeys through history, driven by an interest in what film can teach us about reality: “If one says that death is an axiom of cinema, that isn’t true at first glance. It is killing that preoccupies cinema, and less so death.”
