Bouchra

The festival concludes with BOUCHRA by filmmaker Orian Barki and artist Meriem Bennani. The directing duo gained recognition during the pandemic with the video series 2 Lizards, in which two lizards voiced by the filmmakers survive the lockdown in a New York populated by anthropomorphic animals. Their animated, semi-autobiographical feature BOUCHRA is set in the same universe. Bouchra, a queer Moroccan filmmaker – and coyote – lives in New York and is working on a film based on her own life. A phone call with her mother in Casablanca stirs up old memories. Their tender, yet multilayered exchange sparks a creative breakthrough and paves the way for a journey through family ties.
