A film program presented by transmediale to mark its 40th edition

As part of our series exploring the social significance of independent cultural spaces, we are hosting transmediale, the festival for media art and digital culture, this October. It was founded in 1988 by Micky Kwella and the independent video production group MedienOperative as the VideoFilmFest, with the aim of creating a platform for electronic media productions within the framework of the Berlinale Forum. Today, transmediale is one of the world’s most significant events for art and digital culture. Over four decades, it has built up a network of artists, researchers and practitioners who work on the fringes of mainstream technological culture and sustain forms of exchange, knowledge production and collective imagination.
At silent green, a new neighborhood has emerged between transmediale and the Arsenal. The 40th edition, which opens in January, examines transmediale as a form of counter-infrastructure, understood as a generative practice of building and engaging with the technological conditions of our present.
