Die allseitig reduzierte Persönlichkeit – REDUPERS

Helke Sander’s first feature is a smart depiction of the reality of working single mothers in society. Played by the director, the protagonist lives precariously from one job to the next as a freelance photographer and has sole custody of her daughter. There is little space in her life for her own interests, to say nothing of love. Alongside the perceptive depiction of women shouldering two or three burdens at once, REDUPERS is also an authentic document of West Berlin hemmed in by the Wall as well as a study of the contradiction between artistic freedom and economic obligation.
