Fantasmi a Roma

The Principe di Roviano (Eduardo De Filippo) lives in an old Roman palazzo in harmony with the ghosts of the household. When he dies, his nephew (Marcello Mastroianni) wants to sell the property so that a supermarket can be built on the site. So, the ghosts call in a 16th-century painter (Vittorio Gassman) to reveal a hidden fresco so that their home can be listed as a historic monument, and they can stay. This rarely screened film is a playful Technicolor fantasy comedy, with a star-studded cast that includes Marcello Mastroianni in a triple role. (hjf)
