In Valerio Zurlini’s melancholy drama, Alain Delon plays art historian Daniele Dominici, who teaches at a high school in Rimini for a few months. The disillusioned teacher finds himself drawn to his student Vanina. Their relationship unfolds against a backdrop of loneliness, a repressed past and dissatisfaction. Wintertime Rimini exacerbates the melancholy atmosphere. Departing from previous roles, Delon, who produced the film, plays a vulnerable and introverted character. The film shoot was not easy; the relationship between Zurlini and Delon on set was rarely harmonious. (mm)
