In MIKUBA, Congolese filmmaker Petna Ndaliko Katondolo offers a rare insight into the world of cobalt mining in Kolwezi, in the southern DR Congo. He portrays people whose daily lives are directly tied to a raw material that is central to the global energy transition and modern technologies. Organized as a self-managed cooperative, the miners here work according to traditional methods. They resist against exploitative forces and advocate for a more equitable distribution of profits. MIKUBA shows how traditions and modern technology can be combined to benefit the environment and locals in a globalized world.
