República

A woman wakes up with a call in what appears to be just one more exhausting day, but then something new happens. A shaman declares that Brazil is only a dream. An impressive superimposition of metaphors, REPÚBLICA is an attempt to bring us awake from collective numbness.

Babilônia 2000

On the day of the turn of the millennium, a film crew asks the inhabitants of Chapéu Mangueira and Babilônia, two favelas opposite Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, what they have done that day and what they are planning for the year to come. In a city where the police violence encouraged by the State limits future plans to just a portion of society, BABILÔNIA 2000 finds a subversive charge in asking those on the margins what they expect from life. A blend of memories, laughter and resilient hope, the documentary looks into the segregation that shapes Brazilian urban centers and the rituals that build community.
