Shana

Shana (Eva Huault) is headstrong, argumentative and quick-witted. She also seems to have an endless amount of energy, which she certainly needs in the face of an avalanche of difficulties: She is an outsider in her Moroccan Jewish family, rubbing her mother (Noémie Lvovsky) the wrong way when she gets lip fillers for instance. She is maltreated by her boyfriend Moïse, who is in jail and whose drug deals she has taken on. Her financial woes are mounting. But she can count on her friends. A ring inherited from her grandmother becomes the MacGuffin, lending this thoroughly contemporary film a touch of magic realism alongside illustrations from a book about the biblical plagues of Egypt.
