Forty years ago, a coup detat installed a military dictatorship in Argentina. LA AMIGA (FRG 1988) a film about a friendship between two women by the Argentine-born Jeanine Meerapfel is set against this backdrop. Maria (Liv Ullmann) will do everything she can to find her older son who was taken away by the junta. She joins the Madres de la Plaza de Mayo, a group of other mothers whose children have also disappeared. Her Jewish friend Rachel (Cipe Lincovsky) has known injustice all her life. She at first helps Maria but then escapes to Berlin. With her two characters, the director explores the extent and scope of political action. After the screening, a Q&A session will take place with Jeanine Meerapfel, who is currently the president of the Akademie der Künste. (ah) (20.6.)
